San Francisco-based mobile advertising network Greystripe has released figures that indicate how fast mobile advertising has grown over the last year.

The company is expecting to show record growth of 600% year-on-year for the fourth quarter, with retail, automotive and consumer packaged goods leading the pack in embracing mobile marketing.

According to Greystripe, three quarters of advertisers are now rolling out ads across at least two smartphone platforms, most commonly iPhone and Android phones. CEO Michael Change noted that this was roughly double the number of advertisers who were interested cross-platform mobile advertising than just three months ago.

This is not surprising as Android continues to gain popularity. Google’s operating system is now available on 95 handsets – up from 60 in May.

The company also said that about half of advertisers were running ads both within mobile apps and on the mobile web, to help serve ads across multiple platforms.

eMarketer predicts that in the US mobile advertising is set to grow 80% this year to $743 million. In the UK, a report from mobileSQUARED says that total revenue from mobile content, services and marketing will read £407.1 million in 2010.

The report, which predicts how different elements of the mobile market will grow between now and 2015, says that mobile advertising is set to grow from £50.25 million in 2010 (12% of total mobile revenue) to £357.84 million (33% of total mobile revenue) in 2015.
